Further Education - an enlightening experience.
Interblinds has recently completed an installation of new blinds at the Hugh Baird College of Further Education in Bootle, Merseyside. This is not a ‘one blind fits all’ project. The college requires different levels of light ingress depending on the position of the room in the building, and on the use of the room during teaching periods.
Interblinds came up with an ideal solution by installing roller blinds made of material of different grades of ‘opacity’. This material comes in a range of contemporary colours and three levels of transparency, so it is the perfect choice for buildings of multiple use. Additionally it’s constructed by incorporating a fine invisible mesh, which allows air to circulate during the hotter Summer months.
This blind is complemented with a new ‘side guide’ operating system. The material is guided vertically by the use of discrete wires either side, which means it doesn’t flap about on windy days and windows can be left open if required. Particularly useful in Colleges is the gear operated control with a removable handle. Once the person in charge has determined the optimum position of the blinds, the handle can be removed, preventing any further tampering. This system also does away with cords and chains, which can look untidy and can cause injury to smaller children, (particularly important in primary schools).
This project was achieved over a period of a few months, taking advantage of the College’s holidays whenever possible. When installation during term time was unavoidable, it was completed with the minimum of fuss and disruption to students and teaching staff.
